Helen L. Sacchetti, 87, a guest at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA in Scranton died Tuesday morning following an illness.
Born January 7, 1928 in Scranton, she was the daughter of late John and Anna Blaha. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton.
Helen was one in a million to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was very sensitive to the needs of others, whether it be a hug, a laugh, or a friend. She loved cooking and baking for everyone, and excelled at both! She enjoyed gardening and reading, and caring for any animal that needed love or a home. The kindest heart will be sadly missed!
Helen’s family would like to express with great gratitude the kindness and loving care she received at the Jewish Home of Scranton.
Surviving are her daughters Joan Gongliewski of Throop, PA, and Helen Martina “Tina” Williams of Scranton; her son Dino Sacchetti of Dickson City, and (5) grandchildren: Dominick Sacchetti, James Kresky, Nicholas Kresky, Nico Sacchetti and Gianna Sacchetti; (4) great-grandchildren: Dominick, Dylan, Rosalea and Daisy.
She was preceded in death by her son Henry Sacchetti; (2) brothers Mickey Blaha and John Blaha, and her sister Elizabeth Blaha; and her husbands Robert Williams and Henry Sacchetti Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted:
Friday at 8:30 am from the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Avenue, Scranton, PA with a Mass to follow at 9:30 am in Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Avenue Scranton, PA.

Matthys “Matt” Abas

Matthys “Matt” Abas, 83, of Spring Brook Twp. died Wednesday, June 24th in the VNA Hospice Inpatient unit at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton following an illness. His wife is Barbara Payne Abas.
Born May 19, 1932 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, he is the son of the late Mauritus and Henderica Abas. Matthys was a veteran of the Dutch Royal Army, and was a naturalized American citizen.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a textile designer with Burlington Mills and United Merchants. After retirement, Matt was employed at Bill’s Shoprite where fellow employees and shoppers enjoyed his wonderful smile for 14 years. He was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his step children Raymond D. Dekle and wife Karen of Sterling Township, and Linda Martini and husband Paul of Madison Township.; his brother Soloman Abas of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted:
Friday July 3rd, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Moscow United Methodist Church. Spring Garden Street, Moscow, PA with Rev. Jeff Levy, pastor as officiating clergy.
Rose Anne M. Antidormi

Rose Anne M. Antidormi, 72, of Madison Twp. died Friday morning at her home after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Nicholas R. Antidormi.
Born May 2, 1943, in Daleville, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary Wahl. Prior to retirement, she was employed by North Pocono School District in the food service department. Rose Anne previously had been employed for many years as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
Rose Anne was comforted by the love and support of her immediate family during her illness.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa M. Greboniski and husband, Michael, Plains Twp., and Leslie N. West and fiance, Michael Drutarovsky, Madison Twp.; a sister, Lynn Provizano and husband, Angelo, Covington Twp.; three grandchildren, Nicholas D. West and fiancee, Moriah Minich; Michael Greboniski and Natasha R. Walton; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jr., Nevaeh, Nichole Lynn and Noah J. West; and several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The Funeral Mass will be:
Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church St., Moscow, by the Rev. Robert Simon, pastor.

Lillian A. Wheeler, 83, of Scranton entered into eternal life on Wednesday evening at VNA Hospice at Geisinger/CMC in Scranton. She is the widow of Carl Wheeler who died in 1986.
Born October 26, 1931 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elsie (Klee) Schweitzer. She was a 1950 graduate of Scranton Central High School. Lillian was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, and was a member of the church choir, and served as secretary of the ladies guild. She was member of Association of Lutheran Friends.
Lillian’s family would like to thank the staff at Gardens of Green Ridge and the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger/ CMC for their wonderful care.
Surviving are (4) sisters: Carolyn Brzowsky of Dundalk, MD, Elsie Schweitzer of Scranton, PA, Lorraine Pensak of Factoryville, PA and Grace Morris of Mt. Bethel, PA; (1) brother: Harold Schweitzer of Yuma, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Schweitzer and her cousin Evelyn Jean Schweitzer and her first husband Gus Kopatz in 1972.

Joann G. Walsh, 73, of Scranton died Wednesday at her home following a brief illness. He husband of 55 years is Richard P. Walsh Sr.
Born June 19, 1942 in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Phillip and Marie (Duffy) Lesher. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the local garment industry as a seamstress. Joann attended Covenant Presbyterian Church of Scranton.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters: Lori L. Walsh of Scranton, and Renee L. Walsh of Sterling Township; (1) sister: Dorothy Jenkins of Spring Brook Twp. ; and (5) grandchildren: Richard Walsh, Robert Burns, Eric Hanstein, Stephanie Walsh, and Amber Hanstein; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Richard P. Walsh Jr. on December 4, 2010 and her sisters Lillian Supatosky and Marie Johnson.

Irving A. “Ace” Spalding Jr., 98, of Washington, D.C. and formerly of Scranton, died Friday morning at Casey House Hospice in Bethesda, Md. His wife, Dolly (van’t Haaff) Spalding, died May 14, 2009. He was the son of the late Irving A. and Meta (Gee) Spalding.Mr. Spalding was a graduate of Keystone College and American University in Washington, D.C. Before his retirement, Mr. Spalding was vice president of University Development at American University. He was of the Episcopal faith.
Surviving are his daughter, Ruth Wescott Simcox and husband, Don; and his son, William Spalding and wife, Jackie; grandson, Justin Simcox; sister, Florence Glover; nieces and nephews.

Anita L. D’Angelo, 85, of Tobyhanna died Sunday morning at Golden Living Center in East Stroudsburg where she was a guest. She was the widow of Louis J. D’Angelo who died May 2, 1988.
Born August 2, 1929 in Ridgewood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William and Louise (Kearney) Perry.
Anita was a graduate of Barnard College in New York City; receiving a degree in Education. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Spain and Portugal. She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Surviving are her son Perry D’Angelo of Tobyhanna, PA; her daughter Marybeth Pipeling of Clarks Summit, PA; (2) grandchildren: Marilouise Pipeling, and Robert Pipeling; and her great-grandson Liam.
She was preceded in death by her brother Stuart Kearney.

Austin M. Bumbarger

Austin M. Bumbarger, 15, of Peckville died Thursday morning following injuries sustained from an automobile accident on Wednesday in Jessup.Born Jan. 6, 2000, in Scranton, Pa., he is the son of Travis A. Bumbarger of Peckville and the late Amy (Mueller) Bumbarger. He was a freshman at Valley View High School.
It is often said the brightest stars are those who shine for the benefit of others. Austin was a fun-loving, silly kid who put a smile on the faces of all who knew him. He was the type of person who would help anyone. The love he had for his family was obvious to all. He adored his friends and their families, and loved spending time with them. Austin especially loved his little brother, Patrick, and his niece, Lily. He was excited to teach Patrick all about cars and fishing. He was looking forward to taking both Patrick and Lily camping.
Austin loved being outdoors, camping, fishing, bonfires, skateboarding or just hanging with his friends. Austin was an avid San Francisco 49ers football fan. Cars were his passion. Austin and his father would go every Father’s Day to the Nay Aug car show where he took dozens of photos of his favorite cars. Last August, Austin attended his first ever live race at Pocono Raceway. Pursing his passion and dreams, Austin was accepted into CTC for auto repair for the next school year with the goal of working in a NASCAR garage some day.
Surviving in addition to his father are his stepmother, Lauren (Kelly) Bumbarger; his sister, Krystin M. Bumbarger; and brother, Patrick A. Bumbarger; paternal grandparents, Leo and Margaret Holzman, Elmhurst Twp.; maternal grandparents, Elizabeth “Beth” Connors, Washington, Maine; and John Mueller, Moosic, Pa.; stepgrandparents, James and Dorothy Kelly, Greentown, Pa.; aunts, Jennifer Krzan and husband, Kevin; Danielle C. Frey and husband, Christopher; uncles, James Bailor and wife, Mary; Michael Bailor and fiancée, Michelle; and Corey Gordon and Brian Kelly; his niece, Lily Walsh; and cousins.

Michael R. Cummings, 86, a resident of Gino Merli Veteran Center and formerly of Moscow died Thursday morning following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary H. (Finnerty) Cummings on May 19, 2012.
Born May 24, 1929 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Hannah (Ruane) Cummings. Michael served in the US Navy from 1949 until 1971 obtaining the rank of Master Chief. Prior to his retirement he was employed by RCA Electronics of Dunmore, PA.
Michael was a member of St. Catherines Church of Moscow, PA, and the Knights of Columbus council# 6050 of Moscow, the American Legion post # 579 and the John J. Michaels VFW post 5207. He served as president of the North Pocono school board, and as a board member of NEIU.
Surviving are his daughters, Kathleen Lewis and husband John of Lake Ariel, PA, Patricia A. Cummings of Moscow, PA, and Eileen M. Blizzard and husband T.J. of Marlboro, MA; (1) son: James Cummings and wife Shannon of New Orleans, LA; (6) grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Lewis, Karen Lewis, Meghan Cummings, Melissa Balser,Olivia Blizzard, and Robbie Blizzard; (1) sister: Ann Brazil and husband Paul of Scranton.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Kelly and Mary McDonald; and his brother Joseph Cummings and nieces and nephews.

Madeline M. Chase, 89, of Elmhurst Twp. died Friday morning at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home where she was a guest. Her husband of 68 years, Elmer P. Chase Jr. died October 12, 2009.
Born in Elmhurst, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Foster) Sprandel. She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Madeline was a member of the Elmhurst First Presbyterian Church; and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two sons: Elmer P. Chase III of Olyphant, PA, and Barry A. Chase and wife Donna of Elmhurst Twp.; (2) sisters: Helen Couts of Paupack, PA, and Henrietta Sprandel of Elmhurst Twp. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by (5) brothers and (3) sisters.

Donald H. Schultheis, 78, of Scranton died Thursday morning at his home following an illness. His wife of 53 years is the former Janice Ann Thomas.
Born March 22, 1937 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Harold and Freda (Kapmeyer) Schultheis. He was a graduate of Technical High School, and was a US Army veteran. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Eureka Printing and Panel Prints, Inc. of Scranton for many years.
Donald was an avid gardener; growing up in green houses, and continuing his love of gardening throughout his life. Donald was a member of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church of Scranton.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Beth Schultheis of Upper Darby, PA; his son: Mark D. Schultheis and wife Maurene of Bethlehem, PA; (3) grandchildren: Sarafina, Miles, Vincent Schultheis.

Robert Stout, 79, of Clifton Twp. died Thursday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His wife, Mabel Stout, died May 23, 2014.
Born Jan. 7, 1936, in Gouldsboro, he was the son of the late Clarence and Bernice (Keiper) Stout. Before his retirement, Robert was employed by Anderson Peet Company. He was a member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth A. Scott, Clifton Twp.; and Joyce E. Koskovich, Clifton Twp.; nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.

Walter S. Jaditz, 96, of Clarks Summit died Wednesday morning at Abington Manor Nursing Home after an illness. His wife is the former Frieda A. Klimach. The couple celebrated 72 years of marriage on Jan. 30.
Born May 30, 1918, in Scranton, son of the late Stanley and Teckla Adams Jaditz, he was a graduate and valedictorian of Newton High School class of 1936. Mr. Jaditz was a successful farmer in Newton Township. He specialized in diary farming and a wide variety of wholesale vegetables and farm goods.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton, and was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
Also surviving are his daughter, Joan M. Jaditz, Mount Pocono; son, Robert W. Jaditz, New Holland, Pa.; his sister, Helen Prezkop, Clarks Summit; and nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine Lantry, Bertha Green and Mary Degilio; and his brother, Theodore Jaditz.
The funeral will be:

Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore following an illness. She is the widow of
George W. Nichols.
Born January 29, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late
Edward B. and Hilda (Becker) Rehill. She was a graduate of St. Ann’s Academy in
Wilkes-Barre; and prior to her retirement was employed in Medical Social Work with
Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, FL.
Surviving are her daughters: Patricia A. Martin and husband Donald of Scranton,
and Mary Rose (Moran) of Scranton; (9) grandchildren: Timothy and Jeremy McGuire,
Sam, Jacob, Benjamin and Hannah Martin, Patrick Mangan, Elizabeth Moran, and
Amanda Gardner-Boltz; and (10) great-grandchildren; (1) brother: John Rehill of Germany;

Horne, 89, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Assisted Living Center, and formerly of Gouldsboro entered into eternal rest on Monday morning at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home following an illness. She is the widow of Thomas W. Horne who died July 11, 1997. Born in Goliad, TX, she is the daughter of the late Chester and Florence (Goldson) Davis. Prior to her retirement Laura was employed at the PX at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. She was a member of St. Rita’s Church in Gouldsboro, PA. Surviving are her sons: Thomas W. Horne Jr. and wife Frances of Magnolia, DE, James R. Horne and wife Alice of Covington Twp. PA, Joseph M. Horne and wife Martha of Honolulu, HI, and Alan B. Ruth Bishop Jones

Ruth Bishop Jones, 97, of Marietta, Ga., and Waymart, Pa. died Sunday. She was the wife of Willard W. Jones, who died in 2001.
Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Harley and Helen Bishop, she was a graduate of Lake Ariel High School and Bloomsburg University. Ruth taught school in the Waymart and Western Wayne school districts for 32 years. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Waymart, and was a past matron of Laurel Chapter 67 of the Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are her son, Craig Bishop Jones and wife, Joyce, Mitchell, S.D.; daughter, Suzanne Jones Decker and husband, Brett, Marietta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Wade Jones; Libby Jones Larson and husband, Matt; Seth Decker and wife, Leah; and Brynn Decker Redmond and husband, Judd; sister-in-law, Norma Jones Gabriel; four great-grandchildren; six nieces; and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Earle T. Bishop.
A service of remembrance will be conducted in July at a time to be announced.
Mildred Sharon Lutz Holsomback

Mildred Sharon Lutz Holsomback, 66, died Friday morning surrounded by family at VNA Hospice in Scranton, PA following a difficult battle with cancer. She and her husband Archie Holsomback Jr. of Diboll, Texas were married on November 26, 1966 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Scranton. They celebrated over forty-eight years of friendship and marriage.
Born May 31, 1948, in Scranton, daughter of the late Frank Lutz and Laura Burkel Lutz both of Scranton.
She was a 1966 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Mildred and her family traveled the world residing in MA, PA, TX, NV, AZ, NC, and Germany. She loved traveling and seeing new places. Her family was blessed with many fond memories of their travels and experiences together.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. “Millie’s” life was truly family centered. Millie was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as well as a devoted wife. She will be remembered for her selflessness and unwavering love for her family.
Surviving are three children, Heather Klien and husband, Robert of Clarks Summit; Archie Holsomback III and wife Melody of Orangeville, PA; Frank Richard Holsomback and wife Sue of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren, Chantel Brandon, Audrey Holsomback, Jacob Weston Harris, Suzanne Schultz, Sonja Holsomback, Archie Holsomback IV, Emily Klien, five great grandchildren, one brother, George Lutz of Justus, PA; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Eric and Robert Holsomback, sisters, Martha Capwell and Alberta Wright, and brother, Frank Lutz.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Kondash and staff; the staff of Mountain View Care Center; and the staff of VNA Hospice for their kindness, support and care.

Doris Eileen Havenstrite Price passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 3rd, 2015 at the Jewish Home of Eastern PA, where she has resided for the past four years.
Born in Scranton, Doris was the oldest daughter of Hubert and Cora Williams Pfahler. Her first husband and father of her three children was William H. Havenstrite Jr., who died in 1979. They were married for 33 years. Her second husband, Robert G. Price, died in 2012 after 29 years of marriage.
She graduated from Scranton Technical High School and was working as a secretary at the Murray Plant in Scranton when World War II ended. She often spoke of the excitement when they received word the War had ended and so looked forward to the soldiers returning home. Her husband, William, served in the U.S. Army, husband, Robert, served in the U.S. Navy, and her brother, Hubert Pfahler, served as a U.S. Marine.
Doris came to Covington Township in 1946 as a “city girl” before marrying her first husband, William, who was a farmer, but she learned the ways of country living and never looked back. She lived in New Jersey for a couple of years with her second husband, Robert, but she had grown to love the country and when Robert retired they moved back to Covington. In the 1970’s she was the tax collector for the township.
She was a member of the Daleville United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She taught Bible School, Release Time Classes, held several church offices and was Sunday School secretary for 25 years. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and was active in many of their endeavors through the years.
Doris was a beautiful, prayerful woman of quiet strength and amazing faith, which saw her through many difficult times over the years. As a 30 year plus breast cancer survivor, she has given many women hope. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her most precious memories were those spent with her family and she was very proud of their accomplishments.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Ann Smith; Betty Jane Kakareka and husband, Walter J., and a son, William H. Havenstrite, III, and wife Barbara, all residents of Covington Township.

Sally Matthews of Boca Raton, Florida passed away peacefully on April 25, 2015. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Cornelia Griffith of Scranton. Sally graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1947. She then pursued a merchandising degree at LaSalle Junior College in Massachusetts.
Sally stayed in the Scranton area where she was employed as a designer for the Scranton Lace Company. She and her husband Richard John Matthews II were married on August 8, 1953 and after living in Michigan and New Jersey settled in Dalton to raise their five children. Sally was active in the Women’s Junior League, a founding Den Mother of Cub Scout Troop 156, was involved with various community volunteer activities, an active member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, and many activities with her children, whom she adored. Her legacy includes the Richard and Sally Matthews Endowment for Faculty Research and Scholarship at Penn State University, Worthington Campus. She and her husband loved the game of golf and were both long standing members of the Country Club of Scranton.
Sally and her husband retired to Delray Beach, FL after 30 years in Dalton. Mrs. Matthews then moved to Boca Raton, FL after the passing of her husband in 2013. She is predeceased by sons Todd Winton and Richard John Matthews III.
Sally always had exquisite taste and keen eye for fine arts, a passion she has passed down to her daughters and granddaughters. Often seen in the color purple, Sally was the epitome of class and style. Her famous blueberry and apple pies made an appearance at every family gathering. Sally was a voracious reader her whole life and loved playing cards with her “sugarplum” grandchildren. Her strength and resilience through personal trial and tribulations made Sally an exceptional role model for her entire family.
Surviving is daughter Nanette Field and husband Karl of Flemington, NJ, their children Lindsay and Brandon Sloane of Springfield, VA and Whitney Field of Arlington, VA. Also daughter Pamela Otto and husband Craig of Boca Raton, FL and their children, Matthew, Alexandra and Morgan. She is also survived by a son Wesley Matthews and wife Nicole of Salt Lake City, UT and their children Tiffany and Elizabeth.
Sally is also survived by her Brother Richard (Dick) Griffith and wife Kay of McKinney, TX and Sister Suzanne (Suzie) Knorr of Cumming, GA., as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Emmett “Cy” Bird, 84, of Elmhurst Twp. died Friday evening in the company of his family at Geisinger-CMC in Scranton following a brief illness.
He leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Marion (Davis) Bird; his three children: Jim Bird (Jill) of Rochester, NY; Cindy Coleman of Elmhurst Twp. and Sherry Carey (John) of Elmhurst Twp.; (7) grandchildren: Tara Arceneaux (Mike), Emmy Kinsey (Rich), T’annah Shaffer (Shawn), Jeffrey Bird (Amy), Jamie Mozzone (Mike), Alicia Carey (Ryan), and Shayne Carey; (15) great-grandchildren and brother Mike Hreha (Patti).
Cy was born August 9, 1930 in Scranton, PA, to the late Emmett and Mildred (Bird) Hreha. He served in the Army 11th Airborne Division. He was preceded in death by his grandson John Carey and sisters: Dorothy Stevens, Jennie Clausson, Louise Daubenhauser, and Etta Musgrave.
Prior to his retirement, Cy was employed by United Gilsonite Labs of Dunmore, PA. He was a Supervisor for Elmhurst Township, and served as Roadmaster for 10 years. He also served as a Deputy with the Pennsylvania Game Commission for 27 years. Cy had a passion for fishing, hunting, gardening, politics and humor, not necessarily in that order. Most of all he enjoyed family time as “Bampa” or “Cy” with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted:

Rosemarie Ann Murphy of Mount Pocono passed away on April 15, 2015.
Born on Nov. 5, 1949 in Shannon, Ireland, she was the proud daughter of George and Caroline (Romanowicz) Murphy and grew up in Westbury, N.Y. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, including Pat Shanley and John DelVecchio, and her multiple extended families, the Kaspers, the Winkelmans and the Romanowiczs.
Her career includes 10 years as an income development specialist for the American Cancer Society working with Relay for Life. She had recently been elected as the incoming president of the Manhattan Rose Society and was a member of the ARS National Marketing Committee and Convention Planning Committee for the ARS Fall 2105 National Convention. She was also past president and member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Executive Women International.

Donald A. Stevens,Sr., 81, a resident of the Eastern Star Home of Oriskany, NY, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 following an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selina (Powell) Stevens, on March 22, 2015. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage on October 8, 2014.
Born June 27, 1933 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Nelson A & Beulah (Pelham) Stevens. Donald was raised in Moscow, PA and was a graduate of Moscow High School. He is a former resident of Eden, NY and Caneadea, NY. He is a retiree from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Lackawanna, NY. He was Past Grand Representative of the Grand Chapter of Louisiana near the Grand Chapter of New York, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron of the Bartlett Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Belfast, NY; and a member of Campus Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Oriskany, NY. Donald was a life member of the Eden Fire Department, and a Charter member of the Eden Emergency Squad, both of Eden, NY. He is also a past member of the Moscow PA Fire Department.
Survived by daughters Selina (Carl) Guendel and Frances (Anthony) Leonard, and son Donald A. Stevens, Jr.; Brother-in-Law of Frances (William) Dubransky; Grandfather of: Anthony Leonard, Jr., Rory (Rebekah) Bialecki, Elizabeth Leonard, Johnathon (Pamela) Leonard, Rebecca (Chad) Dziamski, Arthur Leonard, Daniel Stevens, Helen Stevens, and Selina E. Willard James Davis Sr. of Owego, NY, died peacefully at Riverside Manor on Sunday January 4, 2015. Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Hosie and Mildred (Evans) Davis.
Will was a Navy veteran serving during World War II. He was employed by US Textiles in Scranton, and relocated to Owego, NY where he was employed by IBM for 28 years, retiring in 1982. Will was a member of the Owego United Methodist Church, and VFW post # 1371, and American Legion Post # 401. Will loved music and was an excellent dancer. He was an avid New York Yankees fan, and had an amazing baseball card collection.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years Janice, a son Willard J. Davis Jr., a daughter Sandra Cardone and husband Donald; sisters: Romaine Ray, Marion Bird and husband Cy; brothers: Rev. Arthur W. Davis and Donald Davis; step-children: Lon Depew and wife Joann and Donna Miller and husband Bob, Wendy Partelow and husband Wayne; (9) grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Davis; a granddaughter Leanne Cardone; and step-sons Daryl and Warren Depew.

Delores L. Sabia, 64 of S. Abington twp. died Tuesday evening in Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. Her husband is John D. Sabia. The couple celebrated 33 years of marriage on May 9, 2014.
Born October 9, 1950 in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Fritch) Dalykas. Delores is a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended Marywood University. She was employed as a Pharmaist Technician for Rite Aid Corporation in Scranton, and was a member of the Pharmacy Association.
Delores was a member of Providence of God National Catholic Church of Scranton. She loved to dance, and had a fondness for musics from the 50’s and 60’s. And avid reader of books, paperback novels and crosswords puzzles. She always prefer the literary work over film version, re-reading Tolkien and Rowling series many times over. Her son and best friend held a special placed in her heart.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her son John G. Sabia and fiancee Christine Evans of Scranton.

Erik L. Salvatore (Sal, as many of his friends called him), 24, of Covington Twp., died Saturday morning in a motor vehicle accident in Sterling Twp., Wayne County.
Born Nov. 19, 1990, in Scranton, he was the beloved only son of Patrick “Rick” Salvatore and Marianne (Cronin) Salvatore of Covington Twp, both originally from New Jersey. Erik was a 2009 graduate of North Pocono High School and was employed as a sales associate at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his maternal grandmother, Kathleen M. (O’Donohue) Cronin of Lacey, N.J.; his paternal grandparents, Don and Joan Salvatore of Brick, N.J.; aunts, uncles and cousins, one being his dear friend, Kevin Salvatore.
He was preceded in death by his loving uncle, Doug Salvatore.
Erik loved his family and friends, quad riding, movies, UFC, wearing hoodies and WWE wrestling, which he attended with his cousins, Kevin and Michelle Cronin, as well as other friends.

Maryann Stevens, of North Scranton, died Saturday surrounded by her family in Commonwealth Hospice of Northeastern Pennsylvania after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late William and Alice Clarke Stevens and was a 1968 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. After graduation, she was employed by Specialty Records in Olyphant.
Maryann loved spending time with family, especially on Sunday where she would be the lifeguard for all her nieces and nephews at the family pool. She celebrated her Irish heritage by attending the Scranton St. Patrick’s Day parade every year. She was active in her parish volunteering at bingo and the annual block party. She was the Majority Inspector for the voting poll at Bangor Heights.
She is survived by nine brothers and sisters, Bill Stevens, June Schofield, Joan Stevens, Alice Marie Keisling, Carol Zarcone, Linda Jenkins, and Frank, Paul, and Jim Stevens; her brothers and sisters-in law, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and an aunt.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Stevens; her aunt, Mary Klem; and her brother-in-law, Gary Keisling.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated:
Wednesday, at a time to be announced, in Mary Mother of God Church, William Street, Scranton.
Friends and family attending are asked to go directly to the Church.
Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery.

Shirley J. Moore, 80, of Scranton died Wednesday at Geisinger – CMC following an illness. She is the widow of Warren K. Moore who died October 21, 1985.
Born June 12, 1934 in Scranton, she is the daughter of Chester and Evelyn (Stangline) Ludwikowski. She was educated in the Scranton schools and prior to her retirement was employed by Hope Manufacturing, the Jermyn Hotel and Days Inn of Dunmore.
Shirley was a former member of Providence United Methodist Church in Scranton, and was involved with the Geisinger Life program.
Surviving are (5) daughters: Faith C. VanLuvender of Taylor, PA, Sandra J. Dorothy Dickey, 94, a resident of St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Center, Elmhurst Twp., died Sunday afternoon after an illness. She is the widow of John Dickey, who died Nov. 19, 1996.
Born Oct. 26, 1920 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Louis and Mary Augustine Sinkovic, Dorothy was a former resident of Madison Twp., where she and her husband owned and operated a tree farm, specializing in Colorado Blue Spruce. She was also a resident of Naples, Fla. for 15 years, relocating to Pennsylvania after her husband’s death. Dorothy was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Moscow.
Surviving are her sons, John Dickey Jr. and wife, Clovia, Lancaster; and Dennis Dickey and wife, Lynn, Gouldsboro; grandsons, Brian, C.J. and Michael Dickey; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Peter Dickey and wife, Josephine; George Dickey and wife, Nancy; and Joseph Dickey and wife, Patricia; sisters in-law, Helen Sheppard and Dolores Janowicz; and several nieces and nephews.

Barbara E. Ferguson, 83, of Dunmore died Tuesday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient unit in Dunmore following an illness. She is the widow of Roy J. Ferguson who died in 1991. The couple were married 40 years at the time of his death.
Born in Scranton, PA, she is the daughter of the late George and Marian (Ray)Rennie. Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Scranton Technical High School; and in 1980 completed courses at Lackawanna County Vo-Tech as a Health Assistant. She was employed as a Medical Secretary for Dr. O.Y. Piczon and Dr. Ferdinand Manahan.
Barbara was a lifelong member of the Green Ridge Primitive Methodist Church in Scranton where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Clerk, Ladies Aid member and Missionary Society member, and secretary of the Joy Sunday School Class. She also served as a delegate to the Primitive Methodist Annual Conferences.
Barbara was an accomplished seamstress, and took great pleasure in doing things for others. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting and many crafts. Her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy.
Surviving are daughters Carol Ferguson of Perry Hall, MD, and Cathy Merli and husband Chet of Peckville and sons Robert Ferguson and wife Karen of Jessup, and Lee Ferguson and wife Michelle of Dunmore. A brother Wade Rennie and wife Phyllis and a sister-In-law Patricia Rennie, grandchildren: Roy Ferguson and wife Cindy, Jessica Dassau and husband Kevin, Nicole Mayne and husband David, Robert and Steven Ferguson, Maura, Marissa, and Mark Merli; Miranda Ferguson and Ian Boni. Great-grandchildren: Alexa, Shayla, Madelyn, David, Morgan, Jacob and Baylee and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Roy J. Ferguson Jr., a brother Gary Rennie, and beloved granddaughter Cheralyn Ferguson in 2011.

Cleon R. “Bud” Schultz, 87, of Roaring Brook Twp. died Saturday
in the Emergency Department of Geisinger – CMC in Scranton. His wife
is the former Kathleen L. Johnson. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage
on August 25th, 2014.
Born March 26, 1927 in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Raymond
and Alice (Sanders) Schultz. He was a Army World War II veteran serving with
the 3rd Armored Artillery Battalion in Germany.
Bud was the Owner and Founder of Bud Schultz Garden Center in Dunmore. He
built the business from a modest beginning to a thriving horticultural center providing
quality products for many loyal customers.
He was a member of Moscow Lodge # 504 and attended St. Eulalia’s Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter Michele A. Slavinsky of
Jefferson Twp. PA; (3) sons: Edward R. Schultz of Covington Twp. PA, Darryl J. Schultz
of Covington Twp. and Kevin L. Schultz and wife Lynn of Lakeville, PA; his sister
Gail Lewis of Covington Twp.PA; and (3) grandchildren,

Cyreanis H. McPhee, Jr. of Scranton and formerly of Midlothian, VA died
Sunday morning at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville following an illness.
Born March 5, 1935 in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late Cyreanis H.
and Emma A. (Kline) McPhee. He was a 1953 graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
Serving in the US Army from 1957-59, he was a member of the 16th Field Artillery 4th Armored Division stationed in West Germany for over a year. Cyreanis was a self employed business owner in Midlothian, VA for over 30 years. He was an avid bowler and had a love for being on the road, meeting new people everywhere he went. He found a place of comfort with his family after relocating back to Scranton in 2010. He was known not only to his family as Uncle Cy, but to many that crossed his path. He enjoyed spending time with his family sharing stories of his life. The children loved his presence as he brought great joy to them. Cyreanis was a child of God through baptism and known by name by his savior, Jesus Christ and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Scranton.

Geisinger – Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre following a brief illness. Her husband is
Norman E. Mapps, the couple celebrated 45 years of marriage on October 24, 2014.
Born November 2, 1945 in Hainesport, NJ, she is the daughter of the late Edward and
Dorothy (Bendig) Meehan. She was employed as an accounts payable clerk for many
years.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters Patricia Mapps of
Philadelphia, PA, and Susan Pohle and husband Christopher of Cape May

Helen Shotton Ruhle, 93, of Scranton died Sunday at Mountain View Care Center,
where she was a guest. Born in Underwood Village, Olyphant, PA, she was the
daughter of the late John and Rose (Jackson) Shotton. She was a 1938 graduate of
Olyphant High School.
Helen was employed by Eureka Specialty Printers for 21 years and Specialty Printers
for 12 years. She also worked for the Scranton Public Library, and the Lackawanna
County Courthouse. Helen was a faithful volunteer at Allied Services and “Meals on
Wheels”.
Surviving is her granddaughter and caregiver Sherri R. Passaniti and husband Mike of
Olyphant; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death in 2005 by her beloved son John R. “Jack” Ruhle, the light of
her life, whom she missed every day; and her brothers Jackson Shotton, Robert Shotton,
Donald Shotton and her sister Thelma Evankavitch .

Born Aug. 14, 1939, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Thomas and Stephanie Malinowski Flanders, she was educated in the New York City schools. Dorothy was a dedicated member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow.

Harry S. Travis Sr., 97 of Grafton, West Virginia, and formerly of Scranton died Tuesday morning at the Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown, WV following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy M. (Kulp) Travis who died in 1999.
Born January 6, 1918 in Olyphant, PA, he is the son of the late Joseph and Alice (Snyder) Travis. He was a US Army World War II veteran serving in the Pacific theatre of war.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Arthur Ovens Motor Freight for 45 years. Harry was a long time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Scranton and was very active in the Lutheran Synod of Northeast PA. He loved gardening and sending greeting cards, sending over 150 Christmas cards last year.
Surviving are his son Harry S. Travis Jr. and wife Chris of Grafton, WV; his daughter Susan M. Daniels and husband Paul of Harrisburg, PA; (1) sister: Irene McGurrin of Hatboro, PA; (5) grandchildren: Laura Schmidt and husband Robert, Harry S. Jean L. Mecca, 83, of Moscow, died Friday morning at her home following an illness. She is the widow of Joseph J. Mecca Sr. who died in 1993.
Born December 17, 1931 in Moscow, she is the daughter of the late Hazel (Haut) Henderson. She was a member of the Moscow United Methodist Church.
Jean was a dedicated homemaker, mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family. She also had wonderful companionship and love from her dogs, Lily and Bear.
Surviving are her son Mark T. Mecca and wife Kimberly, with whom she resided; her daughter Pamela Mecca of Gouldsboro; and (3) grandchildren: Michele Saita, Josh Carey and Christian Mecca; (4) great-grandchildren: Connor and Zoe Carey, and Destiny and Jesse Saita.
She was preceded in death by her son Joseph J. Mecca Jr. in 2001 and her brother Frank Henderson.

Waverly R. Johns, 58, of Scranton died Feb. 15 at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. Born Aug. 27, 1956, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Harvey S. and Bessie (Myers) Johns.
Waverly is a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was employed by Pine Freight for more than a decade, served as a crossing guard for the Scranton School District and more recently was employed as a bartender for the 20th Ward Social Club.
Waverly loved riding his motorcycles and spending time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Waverly knew how much he enjoyed his morning coffee at Turkey Hill.
Surviving are his daughter, Glynis M. Johns, Scranton; his son, Garrett M. Johns, Scranton; a sister, Thais G. Bennett, Baltimore, Md.; his brothers, Darnell P. Johns, Scranton; and William S. Johns, Tracy, Calif.; and nieces, Sierra Johns, Nicole Johns, Renee Johns and Jaelynn Bennett; nephews, Maurice Johns, Rashad Bennett, Philip Johns, Tyrell Johns and Darren Johns; his aunt, Ella Demby, Baltimore; and many loving cousins and friends.

John Gearing, 90, of Moscow passed away peacefully Saturday at home surrounded by his family and loving wife of 56 years, Janet DeYoung Gearing.
Born Oct. 27, 1924, in Maywood, N.J., John was the son of the late George and Emilie Gearing. He was a graduate of Bogota High School, and was an employee of the United States Postal Service for more than 30 years. Upon moving to the Hideout, he enjoyed his time working as a security guard. He was an Army veteran and a 50-year member of the American Legion.
John was a dedicated volunteer, donating his time to the Maywood Ambulance Corps, Hackensack Hospital Emergency Room, Hamlin Senior Center and the Roamingwood Sewer and Water Authority.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, sons, Barry Gearing and William Gearing; a daughter, Sharyn Gilmartin and husband, Richard; three grandchildren, Robert Gilmartin and wife, Barbara; Katherine Palazzo and husband, Robert; and Kelley McConnell and husband, AJ; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Gilmartin.

Carolyn M. Besket, 81, of Roaring Brook Twp. died Thursday evening at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger/CMC following an illness. She is the wife of Peter Besket. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage on June 20, 2014.
Born August 13, 1933 in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Carl and Sarah (Fortuna) Mattern. She is a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
Prior to her retirement, Carolyn was employed as an Administrative Assistant by the North Pocono School District. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Scranton.
Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter Laurie A. Holland and husband Tim of Madison Twp.; her sons: Thomas P. Besket and wife Michaelyn of Madison Twp. and James A. Besket and wife Denise of Roaring Brook Twp.; (3) grandchildren: Ryan Besket and wife Brooke, Sarah Besket and Nicole Rogers; and a great-granddaughter Willow Grace and nieces and nephews. James J. Clauss was born on August 9, 1926 in Lake Ariel PA to Harvey and Alice (Fadden) Clauss, the fourth of five children (Harvey Jr, Thomas, Gretchen and Peter, all of whom preceded him in death).
>In 1948, he married his beloved, Marion Lynch, with whom he had five children-Mary Alice, Sister Kathryn IHM, Mari Acculto (John Acculto), Jim Jr. (Louise Betti), and Becki Wick (David Wick)-and last year celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. Jim is the proud grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Katie Beckage, Rebecca Kratz, John Acculto Jr., Jamie McNerney, Chris Acculto, Jerry Clauss, Michael Clauss, Lizzie Clauss, Graham Wick, James Wick, and Marion Clare Wick; five great-grandchildren: Olivia and Ian Beckage, Anna Acculto, Patrick and John McNerney; 35 nieces and nephews; and well over 100 grandnieces and -nephews, with more and more great-grandnieces and nephews on the way.
Jim grew up in Olyphant where he was co-captain of the football team, served as president of the senior class and graduated from Olyphant High School in 1943. After service in the US Army Air Force in World War II, he completed a BA degree in Philosophy at the University of Scranton in 1947; in the years ahead he received an MA in Religious Studies from Marywood University. After college, he worked for the Harleyville Insurance Company in Philadelphia, after which he served as branch manager for Prudential Insurance Company in Honesdale and then formed the Clauss Insurance Agency in the 1950s, which has been located in Olyphant ever since. In addition to the Insurance Agency, Jim founded Northeastern Fire Insurance Company in the 1960s and was proprietor of the Castle Restaurant from 1972-79, among other successful business ventures.
Among his many activities, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus (fourth degree, Olyphant), the Scranton Country Club, the Jewish Community Center of Scranton, the Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Serra Club, Rotary Club, Pennsylvanians for Human Life, and Sts. Clare and Paul Parishes. Among his honors, he received the Lion of Judah Peace Award from the State of Israel, for which then-mayor James McNulty proclaimed May 23, 1982 as “James Clauss Day,” the Phidias Award through the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Scranton, and the Frank O’Hara Award from the University of Scranton for public service; he was also honored by the Jewish Home of Pennsylvania for his many services. Jim served on numerous boards and councils, including Director of the United Way of Lackawanna County, President of the Scranton Neighbors, Chairman of the Mayor’s Conservation Committee, Board of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, Co-Chairman of the University of Scranton Presidents Club Fund Drive, Director of the North Scranton Bank and Trust Co., Board of Directors of Marywood University, President of Birth Right, and also in various capacities he worked on behalf of the United Jewish Campaign, St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen, Red Cross, Scranton YMCA, and Tissue Bank. Jim is also the author of two books: The Civil Justice System: Neither Civil nor Just and I believe that I May Know, I Know that I May Believe.
Jim Clauss will be best remembered for his remarkable generosity of time and resources to numerous individuals, institutions and social and religious causes, dedicated service to local communities, faithful commitment to the Roman Catholic Church yet loving outreach to peoples of other faiths, and devotion to his immediate and extended family. While those who know him will miss his dynamic presence, his family embraces the hope that he will live on in the model he challenges us all to imitate: generosity, service, faith, commitment, outreach and devotion.

Arthur L. Lord, 88 of Scranton died Saturday morning at his home after an illness.
>Born March 21, 1926 in Scranton, he is the son of the late Lavern and Mabel (Brink) Lord. His wife, of 68 years, is the Former Hazel Gammond.
Arthur was a US Army veteran serving with the 694th Motor Ambulance Company in the Western Pacific campaign of World War II. He attended the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement, he was a salesman with the W.H. Coon Company of Scranton, and was also employed by Brockway Motor Trucks. He was a member of the Masonic Union Lodge of Scranton; and VFW Post 7069 of Clarks Summit, PA and the American Legion # 908 of Scranton. He was a bartender at the Tauras Club of Scranton for several years and an avid golfer and Washington Redskins fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife are (3) daughters: Karen Jacoby and husband Robert of Clarks Summit, PA, Lynn McMillen and husband Gary of Crystal River, FL, and Barbara Gataveskas and husband John of Jefferson Twp. Wilma A. Thomas, 63, of Dunmore died Wednesday at Moses Taylor Hospital following a brief illness. She is the widow of John P. Thomas who died in 2000.
Born January 16, 1951 in Burlington, VT, she is the daughter of the late David and Corrine (Richards) Bergeron.
Wilma was employed at many local restaurants as a waitress and cook. She was known for her generous and helpful spirit. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.

Mary A. Horvath Transue

Mary A. Horvath Transue, 90, of Scranton, formerly of Simpson, died Monday evening at Carbondale Nursing & Rehab Center after an illness. She was the widow of George H. Transue, who died Nov. 14, 2003.
Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Forest City, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary E. Scerbak Horvath, she was employed by Grove Textiles as a machine operator before retirement. Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Scranton and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Polish Progressive Club of Scranton and a former member of the Waldorf Club and the Scranton Liederkrantz.
Surviving are her nephews, Joseph Purdy and wife, Mary Fran, Carbondale; Edward Purdy, Harding; two great-nephews, Jared and Marcus Purdy; a stepson; and step grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Purdy, in 2012.
Mass will be celebrated:
Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Ave., Scranton.
Interment:
Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Adolph G. “Al” Eberhardt

Adolph G. “Al” Eberhardt, 97 of Scranton died Saturday morning in Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient unit in Dunmore following an illness.
Born May 4, 1917, in Scranton, PA, he is the son of the late Adolph and Kamilla (Tessarek ) Eberhardt.
Al attended Scranton Technical High School and Johnson School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an Electronics Technician in New Jersey. He returned to Scranton to be near his family and worked as a custodian at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scranton; and was a volunteer Braille Worker at the church for 14 years. He was a great lover of music, animals and birds; and had a pet Parrot for 35 years.
Al’s family is thankful for all the prayers and cards sent to him by his many friends.
Surviving are his sister Anne Pencek of Scranton; and his brother Arthur Eberhardt and wife Caroline of Clarks Summit; and his sister-In-law Helen Eberhardt of Scranton; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Helen Kopicky; and his brother Victor Eberhardt; and brothers-In-law Edward Kopicky and Adolph Pencek.
A memorial service will be conducted:
February 28th, 2015 at 1:00 pm in Immanuel Lutheran Church, 238 Reese Street, Scranton, PA

Gregory S. Zarse

Gregory S. Zarse, 67, of Greentown died Jan. 2. Gregory was a Vietnam War veteran, serving two tours in the Marine Corps. His loving wife, Anita Zarse, was also considered his best friend and confidant. He was a proud father of two sons, Karl and Erik Zarse; and a loving brother to Laura A. Bell. He strongly believed in dignity, honor, respect and integrity. He was loved by many, and will be incredibly missed by those who kept him close to their hearts.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be conducted:
Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the Light of Christ Church, 241 Lake Spangenburg Road, Mount Cobb.
